ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the impact of public procurement act on the procurement process in Nigeria public sector using Kaduna state ministry of education, Kaduna as a case study. Specifically, the study was aimed at evaluating the procurement act as it relates to providing fair opportunities to suppliers through bidding in a competitive environment for all government business; evaluate the contributions /impact of the act towards reducing and eliminating corruption in the procurement process and earn the respect of the public and supplier; examine the contribution of the act toward Quality control and assurance; and evaluate the contributions of the procurement act towards budget monitoring and control. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 30 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that Procurement act provide fair opportunity to suppliers in the competitive market environment by ensuring strict compliance with specification in awarding contract, reducing business as usual syndrome in an organization, harmonize the process of awarding contract in organization, etc. The study therefore recommend The government of Kaduna State should endeavor to educate, train and enlighten the procurement officers on the necessity of the procurement act and to adjoin them to adhere strictly to its provision since this will bring about transparency and accountability and other benefits to Government parastatal.
